■ The 69th edition of the Miss Universe contest will be held on May 16 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood, Florida. Among the 74 candidates, only one will be crowned Miss Universe 2021. Laos will be represented this year by Christina Lasasimma. Will she succeed South African Zozibini Tunzi, crowned Miss Universe in 2019?

■ ນາງ Zozibini Tunzi ແມ່ນ ຍິງ ຜິວດຳ ຄົນທຳອິດ ຈາກ ອາຟຣິກາໃຕ້ ທີ່ ໄດ້ຮັບຕຳແໜ່ງ ນາງງາມຈັກກະວານ, ນາງໄດ້ຊະນະ ຕຳ ແໜ່ງ ໃນວັນທີ 8 ທັນວາ 2019. ນາງ ໄດ້ສ້າງປະຫວັດສາດໂດຍການ ແຕ່ງໂຕ ຂອງນາງ ເຮັດຊົງຜົມສັ້ນ ທໍາມະດາ ແບບທຳມະຊາດ ທີ່ເຂົ້າກັບລັກຊະນະຂອງນາງ ນອກຈາກການແຕ່ງໃນການຟູມເຟືອຍ
■ Zozibini Tunzi was the first black woman from South Africa to win the Miss Universe crown, she won the title on December 8, 2019. She also made history by eschewing expectations and electing to compete with her natural, short-cropped hair, reflecting a deep shift in beauty standards in the pageant industry and beyond. ■ A NOTE FROM ZOZI: ❝ To me, ambition is the determination to achieve whatever it is that our hearts truly desire. Becoming Miss Universe was a solid reminder that everything I dream of and work hard towards, I am more than capable of realizing. There is no limitation to whom I can become-- regardless of my social class, my race, and my gender. I hope becoming Miss Universe means the same to others watching my journey as well: They, too, are capable. Beauty pageants, like many things, have evolved. In 1952, no one could have ever imagined that a Black girl with short natural hair from former apartheid South Africa would be Miss Universe. Beauty never looked like me. I was not the standard. When people think of me, I want them to know that there is no such thing as dreaming the impossible. There is no one exempt from greatness; we are all born with it inside us. The only thing we have to do is find what it is that we are great at -- our purpose -- and take up that space. That is my legacy: the one who came and took up space.
